Pub Quiz! Which pub is this?

"[this pub's name] seems a curious choice though, since it is the last thing you actually want to happen whilst you’re skiing. It would be like having a pub at Daytona called 'The Car Crash' or one at Aintree called 'The Horse that Fell Over, Broke it’s Leg, and had to be Shot'"

Answer...

Chandlers was until recently The Better Half, but it changed its name after a renovation, just one of a spate of renovations that has seen the traditional pub all but disappear in the Ealing Broadway area to be replaced by the pastel coloured wanky pub, trendy bar hybrid. Such is progress.

The renovation that killed off The Better Half and gave birth to Chandlers was one of the quicker ones and in truth not much has changed. The Better Half featured a lot of wood it's just now that most of that wood has been painted cream, including the doors, outside of which now sit a couple of small trees which must surely be the tree world equivalent of a poodle.

The most notable change is at the back of the pub where a raised section has been remodelled to look like someone's living room, complete with sofas, Standard Lamps, plants and coffee tables; all very nice if you wanted to sit in a living room, but given that you probably left a living room to go to the pub in the first place it all seems a bit pointless, especially when you consider that the one thing likely to keep you in the living room, the TV, is conspicuous by its absence. Of course, most people go to the pub for a chat; fine, so why try and hide the fact they're in a pub? Having a chat on a weekend isn't easily accomplished in Chandlers because of the DJ who likes to play his music at such a volume that it's the only thing you'll be able to listen to in the pub. With the DJ installed at the weekend you can't help but feel that Chandlers is very much like Edwards and certainly going for the same crowd, you should pretty much know what to expect, so no excuse for getting the dress code wrong which is important, because you won't get into Chandlers wearing trainers.

Whether the name is taken from the character in Friends is unclear, but it seems a bit late in the day to be climbing aboard that particular bandwagon, so probably not; one thing that is worth mentioning is like the characters in the show who spend much of their time drinking coffee, those who prefer to have a coffee rather than a beer will not be disappointed at Chandlers, as they do a range of coffees. In fact Chandlers is a suspicious pub; the beer drinker should always be suspicious of any pub that has a greater selection of coffees than beer.

Don't waste your time in this hole. Walk round the corner to the North Star. Bit busy but good dj's and plenty of totty if that's what you're looking for.

This is a rather awful pub, as soon as I come in here I feel bored as everyone seems so monotone and depressed, you get the pensioners in here drinking tea in the afternoon and the wannabee trendies/toffs (30's) drinking spritzers in the evenings. I cannot believe that this pub has been compared to Edwards, Eddys may not be to everyones taste but it is lively, friendly and you know what to expect when you go there, a welcoming atmosphere, a cheap drink, friendly regulars(although the bar staff can be a bit hit and miss, especially the new mgr who's mood changes as often as the weather) and usually good music, Chandlers does not have any of these attributes and has the grumpiest bar staff in Ealing.

The guy the claimed to be the owner of this bar needs to attend a customer politeness course. Ealing has many bars, spend your money in a bar where the owner is not going to insult you, and will appreciate your custom!!

The guy I believe to be the manager in this place was obviously passed over when the good manors were handed out! He really expects to keep customers? The service was terrible, he seemed to have a chip on his shoulder bigger than his establishment and it seems he has no qualms when it comes to unburdening his troubles on the paying customers! Avoid this place unless you want a thoroughly unwelcoming, uncomfortable and quite simply awful experience. P.s. It has all the atmosphere of an empty box!

Had there Christmas dinner for 12 people. They made errors in order and stubbornly were claiming that I emailed booking with this error (just checked all my correspondence and no, I got it right, they got it wrong, they served wrong food).

When it came to pudding (all ordered 2 weeks earlier) they said that they didn't have what we ordered. Talking about late notice, huh?

Ok, as a compensation they didn't charge us for a pudding, just for starters and mains.

I canceled one of the meals 2 days earlier, and although as it was late cancellation they should have charged me a deposit, they charged full rate. That is because they still served the food - I mean they put extra full plate next to empty chair! Weird.

Food was awful - all overcooked, totally cold, potatoes and yorkshire so hard couldn't bite it. Trout bitter and dry. Veg old, cold and kept in the oven until rock hard and black.

A pint of Hoegaarden cost me nearly £5.

Service - non existing.

We will not be back. That's for sure.
