Pub Quiz! Which pub is this?
"order a drink in the magnum glass and you better be prepared for a long session - if only these glasses were available in London it would save the old codgers in Wetherspoons pubs twenty-three extra trips to the bar, and would make an interesting drinking game for the youngsters, especially once you start your second magnum after breaking the seal."
Answer...
The Plough and Harrow is the newly opened Wetherspoons in Hammersmith. It's Wetherspoons gone posh. It's shiny. Anyone who has been to the Ledger Building, the Wetherpoons in Docklands, will recognize a similarity here with the large stainless steel back wall behind the bar and the recessed porthole like spaces where the drinks are kept. It certainly gives the place a modern look in complete contrast to the William Morris, the original Wetherpsoons in Hammersmith.
Whoever decided on the modern look was probably the same person who suggested the fibre optic twinkling lights in the ceiling. Most pubs could accomplish this by putting a skylight in so drinkers who felt so inclined could look at the stars, but being built beneath a hotel obviously ruled that option out, so we say well done for finding an alternative and providing a conversation piece.
The toilets are very much in keeping with the shiny theme, with frosted glass between each urinal, very tasteful. As in many Wetherspoons these days there is a page of a newspaper framed on the wall in front of each urinal to give you something to read whilst you empty your bladder. Now, is that really necessary? Are we that desperate for external stimuli these days that we can’t even entertain ourselves with our own thoughts whilst we take a piss? And surely this is going to cause problems at peak times when people get so absorbed in the articles that they stand at the urinal for 5 minutes reading, causing a queue to form behind them. And if they are reading they're not drinking, have Wetherspoons not thought of this? Maybe they have, cause they don't appear to put the sports pages up. They do put the crossword up though, so if you think you are smart enough to be able to complete the Times crossword in the time it takes to have a leak, take a pen with you.
Of course, underneath the shiny exterior this is still a Wetherspoons, with the regular Wetherspoons features – cheap drinks, cheap food, no jukebox, no TV and a "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" quiz machine. It does have the obligatory for King Street sofa. Don't be fooled into thinking it's comfortable though; it's clearly a wooden seat with padding on it, and not much padding at that. Think of M's door from the James Bond films and you'll get the idea. The rest is pretty much open plan seating, not the place to go for a quiet conversation in a secluded corner.
It's a bit early doors to gauge the totty rating, but there has clearly been a move by Wetherspoons to influence this review; the quality barmaid from the William Morris was behind the bar on opening night. Whether this is a permanent totty transfer or whether she was on hand for training purposes remains to be seen.
Finally, if you get too pissed to face the trip home don't forget there is a Holiday Inn above the Plough and Harrow, though if you could afford the £89.95 a night for a room, the chances are you wouldn't be drinking in a Wetherspoons in the first place.

It's simply the best...People have to visit!!
you visited yet?
Large - almost confusingly so. The kind of place where you get people wandering around doing 'promotions'. If you were going for a night out with a large group of people then it could be ok, but I wouldn't rate it over the William Morris otherwise.
A good fun pub. Clean and airy. Delicious food. Sensational staff. Definately a before going out pub (if that makes sense). Very cheap booze. Good perve on a Saturday night with all the School Disco chicks. Make sure you get served by Paul, he's a cutie!!
Hey D!! It's Paul! How are you!! I dont work at the Plough and Harrow anymore!!
But thanks for the comment above ha ha ha! Now I know why you pissed me off so much at work!! ha ha
Hello Can I just say that the bar staff in the plough and harrow are just so helpful
Paul We will miss you!
Please come back you were our favourite person in there!!!!!!!
COME BACK PAUL!
plough and harrow rocks!
Go there!
The Plough and Harrow seems to have an entirely restaurant-type interior now, almost nothing but four-seater dining talbes. The 'trendy' Wetherspoons pub on King Street now is the William Morris, which has become a Lloyds No. 1.
Hi Everyone. No-ones been on this site and posted a message for ages.........SO.....

Hi all avid Wetherspoons fans..... Hi Paul & Dee (Dee you will know who i am!!) I agree with you all on your comments about the Plough & Harrow, however it is more of an eating place than a drinking place during the week - GREAT FOOD!! Dee I miss ya!! Paul whats happened to you? Alice has left!! kids are still allowed in the P&H although I think that they are only allowed there until 8 or 9 pm & vthey have to eat!! I love the pub it's great!! C U all there!!!
Hello Terry, Dee and Monkey (who are you by the way?)I know Alice has left and will pay a visit to the pub as soon as I can. Just with my new job time is slightly tight. Terry kids are allowed in the P&H up until around 9pm however they must have a meal purchased for them and sit in the designated areas of the pub (at the rear) this is as per the Licencing Act. I do miss the P&H, staff and customers alike. My new "customers" are so friendly!! (for those of you who know what my new job is!)Hello to everyone who remembers me.!! Paul Whitcomb
