Pub Quiz! Which pub is this?

"The seats outside are even better positioned for totty spotting, but you'll have to contend with the close proximity of the road and the traffic fumes interfering with the taste of your pint, though since the lager of choice in [this pub] is Carlsberg that isn't necessarily a bad thing."

Review

The Spice of Life is the closest pub to the Palace Theatre, so you can take a fair guess as to who the majority of the clientele will be. There is a blackboard behind the bar, not advertising the current beers on offer but the selection of hot beverages for sale. The bar staff seem very proficient at using the coffee machine, which can only indicate regular use.

It's a nice enough place, fairly large with plush red benches around the wall and plenty of seating; you can't help but get the impression it's just a little bit more upmarket than its close neighbours The Cambridge and The Marquis of Granby and it just doesn't seem like an appropriate location for a session. There is no jukebox, the sound track to your drinking is chosen for you, on the last visit Whitney Houston was playing, which hardly encourages one to linger. It's certainly not the location for watching sport either, there's just one 14inch TV, there are much better alternatives close by.

I regularly go the the downstairs bar on Wednesday nights, to listen to the wonderful jazz and singers.

Why do we have to suffer being practically thrown out at 11pm , rather than having the normal drinking up time. Such an enjoyable evening is dampened by the unagreeable manner from the management.

A intersesting place when you get to know it. Live music every night and staff that seem to be human rather than trained beer monkey's the only decent local in london

In reply to coltman2:

You silly sod, normal hours are normal hours. You must remember that you live in England and not Europe, there are very tight rules on the regulation of drinking hours and that venues license could be revoked for the sake of you schmoozing for 5 minutes longer with 'that' woman you've been oggling all night. Wake up to reality.

In reply to the person that claims they have been to The Spice of Life & that Whitney Houston was being played, when they were in the pub. I have a dispute to put toward YOU. I have been a regular at The Spice of life for a long time now and not once have I never heard such mindless trash as the name previously mentioned. Maybe a little bit of cheesey 'Last Christmas' at the wrong time of year, but all is fair in drinking happiness.
