Pub Quiz! Which pub is this?

"I am reliably informed that the women's toilet follows the authenticity theme, with a wooden door falling off its hinges, and of course, no lock available"

Answer...

Review

A scary looking place from outside and even scarier inside, with scary patrons and scary toilets. If you like longhaired men, big cleavages and even bigger riffs, then the Intrepid Fox is the place for you.

An haven of hard-rock between the pink-pounded patrons of Old Compton Street and the sleazy backstreets of Soho, this pub within walking distance of Walkers Court and surrounded by sex shops and strip joints is ideal for the metal fraternity – just look for the pub with the crouching, demonic gargoyle above the door. Sitting amongst a variety of car-parts and crucified metallic-skeletons is a feature unique to The Intrepid Fox, as is the omnipresent cloud of cigarette smoke that hangs lifelessly, like the fake spiders and bats that make this a high-camp, gothic experience.

Apart from the smoke, it’s the toilets that make this pub such a dump. Locking the toilets and asking the customers to urinate in the street would certainly be preferable over using the toilets here, and certainly more hygienic. Taking women into The Intrepid Fox is always an embarrassment due to the lack of doors in the Ladies toilets, and beware of the flood in the Gents.

The selections of beers are what you would expect for an establishment of this nature – there are no cocktails, and the prices are fairly reasonable for this part of London. The large, clear windows make this pub a magnet for passing tourists who gawp at the Neanderthal men, women and original-features inside. You can also while away the hours over a few pints looking at all the posters and flyers that are pasted to the walls, and seem to have been amassed over the last 20 years (although the pub was recently ‘renovated’). And playing ‘spot the failed rock star’ is another good game, but you’re probably just imagining it that the geezer with the eyeliner and cowboy boots was in that band who had a lone Top-20 single in 1990!

There is a excess of totty here, but you need to find it attractive for totty to have multi-coloured hair, shaven heads, piercing, tattoos, and a six-inch nail protruding from their bottom lip, in addition to their chain-smoking habit and low-cut black, vampire outfit that doesn’t leave much to the imagination.

When all is said and done, this is a ‘rock and goth’ pub, and a good ‘rock and goth’ pub that attracts people from all over the country, who choose this pub above all others when visiting the capital. Definitely worth a visit if ‘rock and goth’ is your thing – see you there.

The Intrepid Fox is the rockenest crypt in all of this world you may call "earth" my dark friends. The great lord Beelzebub himself serves schnappes from behind the bar and his dark minions clear the ashtrays. As for the music, well, if you like your your Holocaust hydro grind with primeval axe decaptitation, then you're in business. This sh*t is rock and roll!!!!!!!!! My evil vampyres!!!!The toilets are rubbish though.

I'm a big fat goth bird and The intrepid Fox is like a mother to me.

It's dark, dank and delicious but enough about my musty personality. It's also a great place to pick up, not that many men could pick me up (I'm very very heavy and I wear a spikey crucifix). If the darklord is cruising tonight, would rather like to meet him in the Fox tonight (if he doesn't turn up any other hippy will do).

I use to live in London and now live in the U.S. When the George pub off Charing Cross road closed to the "Heavy" side of life, and became a suits pub, I didn't know where to go. Then I moved to the states. But coming back for visits is great now that the Intrepid Fox is around. If you love Metal and want to be around the BEST people around, (and you don't wear a suit), this is the place to come. Dark, smoky, loud, and just dam right the best pub there is in London. In fact I was just in London and in the Intrepid Fox.

Only the best pub in the world. I've been to cesspits all around Australia, in the U.S., Canada, SE Asia, all over Europe and had a great time in all but there was always something wrong with them. The Septic Box (as my friend likes to call it) has it all. The best mix of music I've ever heard (even beats the Crowbar), the most gorgeous barmaids and the coolest people. I just wish it was in Perth...

After a long day wandering all around London, I was quite excited to arrive at the Fox, some friends of mine went there before and were delighted! I must confess that I've been too. That's the place you like to be in if you like all the above description (it's my case!). Plus I was happy to exchange some french words with that super-cute blonde waitress from Quebec! Too bad, I couldn't stay long and only had time to sip 3 pints of Guiness (buuurp!). Plus, the toilets aren't that bad. The corridor access to it is a must see! Frankly go there mandatory, it would be my crash out HQ if I lived in London! :)

Well my fellow headbangers. I just got wasted in the intrepid fox last Saturday while "warming up" fpr the ultimate Motörhead gig at the Hammersmith - it seems to be the truth that this place is the only last metal place that survived in the city of London...sad but true, but eh, what's this complaining about the toilets? Cheezz...only whuzzies need toilets.

To the "foxy" staff: YOU FU?!IN ROCK! Bang the head that doesn't bang or as my friend uses to say "death before dishonour" - Cheers, Mate!

I loved this place! I used to live in London but still visit a lot to see the inlaws. I always visit Intrepid when I'm in London. Great music, cool decor but I do have just one quibble.... when recruiting staff, did they deliberately seek out the most miserable and unsociable b******s they could find?? Or am I just a dying breed.. a "happy goth" with no hang ups and a sense of fun?!

Not sure about your bar staff comment. The big guy is really friendly in a scary (if you pee me off) kind of way and the guy with the long curly hair is the hottest man ever! Anyone know his name?

I was visiting London with my brother this past March of 2006, and we happen to stumble upon this place. I had a great time there, the people and the staff were really great. Thats really too bad that it is closing down.

I used to go there a fair bit when I first moved to London and it was a good craic.

Went there with a few mates a couple of weeks ago and were somewhat dismayed to be turned away for being "too regular". Too regular? I thought this was a punk pub! Ah, maybe that'w why the guy on the door has a perfect mohican and an exploited T-shirt, along with his NEW jeans and shiny black boots. Oh, very punk. Suspect he didn't see The Exploited on their 81 tour, as one of our party did and not sure he quite understands what they are all about, but hey ho.

So we were kind of informed that what once was punk is now about wearing the right clothes. Maybe time to change the name to the Insipid fox?

Insipid Fox? From your experience there I'd say that was a good description. All good things must come to an end, I guess, and it was a good thing, once... :(

Yes the Fox is no more. Moved on for progress sake in the form of more flats or whatever they have planned. Yes the toilets were a bit rough but they got better. Yes it was packed and unless ya got seated be prepared to do body swerves the Englad Rugby team would be proud of. The point is its the memories the pub user has and i had loads. Heres to all the past landlords and staff all the characters and all the likeminded people who have made the pub what it was. Hey though dont pack ya hearing aids away yet the pub may be gone but we havent so lets hope apart from the Eeyrie(?) pub chain we have a new venue soon.

Hi Black Mastenia

Yes, the Intrepid Fox is now well and truly open and I hear that it is doing well. My son Ian (Izzy) is the Manager, so why don't you go and pay it a visit and make yourself known?

The new venue for the "Intrepid Fox" is great, easier to get to and much more space inside, but it still gets just as crowded. The music is still metal and rock, enough to get you normal again after an evening there. Took a walk through Soho today and don't like what they're doing with all the traditional places, they really are trying hard to change the fabric of the place. Dont miss the Fox when you're in London, you'll meet some amazing people there. My last trip there I met an aeronautics specialist who is a motorhead fan, we drank a beer or 10 together. :)

Visited The Intrepid Fox (15 ST. GILES HIGH STREET BEHIND CENTRE POINT AND TOTTENHAM COURT RD STATION. YOU MUST CHECK IT OUT!!!) for the first time this weekend.

I 'wowed' as soon as I walked in at the awesome Guns n Roses pinball machine.

The trip to the toilets is by far the best one in all of London! Metal posters all the way there and Vince Ray art on the doors led to ladies toilets complete with doors and nice soap!!!

Barman asked my boyfriend (wearing an Iron Maiden tshirt) what tracks he fancied hearing.....where-else do you get such a personal service? We'll definitely be heading there each time we're in London.

I suggest you look at their new site here:

Dirty, smelly and full of children. If you like Heavy Metal and decent beer, avoid this place like the plague!
